Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or homemade seasoning blend)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 taco shells (hard or soft, your choice)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
  • Salsa, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it begins to brown, about 5 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  3. Season the Meat: Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Pour in the water, bring to a simmer, and cook until the sauce has thickened and the beef is fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Prepare Taco Shells: While the beef is cooking, heat the taco shells according to the package instructions.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture into each taco shell. Top with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and cilantro. Add a dollop of sour cream and a spoonful of salsa, if desired.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the tacos immediately, hot and fresh. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can use lean ground beef (90% lean) to reduce fat content.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeño to the beef mixture.
  • Toppings like guacamole, sour cream, and shredded lettuce can add extra flavor and texture.
